How it works

1
Independent nodes fetch data
A Decentralized Oracle Network (DON) of independent node operators each query multiple exchanges / data providers off-chain.
2
Aggregate + sign
Each node submits a signed report; the DON aggregates them (median) into a single authoritative value with no single point of failure.
3
Deliver on-chain
Push feeds update on heartbeat or threshold; Data Streams lets contracts pull the latest signed price on demand in ~1 second.

Why prediction markets use it

  • The most widely-deployed oracle in DeFi, with $31T+ cumulative transaction value enabled and integrations from Swift, JPM, DTCC, UBS, Aave, GMX and Lido.
  • Broadest product surface: price feeds, CCIP cross-chain, VRF randomness, Automation, Proof of Reserve — one oracle covers many needs.
  • For prediction markets, Data Streams gives ~1s latency for sub-15-minute crypto markets — fast enough for high-frequency venues.

About

Chainlink is the most widely deployed decentralized oracle network. A distributed set of node operators reads off-chain data (prices, market metadata, sports outcomes, randomness) and pushes signed updates on-chain, where smart contracts consume them. Beyond classic price feeds, Chainlink offers CCIP (cross-chain messaging), Data Streams (pull-based low-latency feeds), VRF (verifiable randomness), Automation and Proof of Reserve. Chainlink reports $31T+ cumulative transaction value enabled (chain.link hero, June 2026) and lists Swift, Euroclear, Mastercard, Fidelity International, UBS, ANZ, J.P. Morgan, DTCC, Aave, GMX and Lido among its partners. In prediction markets Chainlink became a major price-feed oracle through 2025–2026: Polymarket integrated Data Streams + Automation for sub-15-minute crypto markets (Sept 2025), Predict.fun adopted it for its 15-min BTC markets, Limitless added Chainlink Data Streams alongside Pyth in June 2026 (~19k markets/week on Base), and Opinion uses Chainlink as a secondary feed for objective data.
